Promes will be stuck for longer and will appear again on 8 July

A day after his extradition to the Netherlands, the council chamber of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal decided that Quincy Promes will remain in custody longer. The next hearing in the appeal is on July 8.

The Amsterdam Court of Appeal announced on Thursday evening that the hearing of Promes has been completed and that his detention has been extended. The next hearing on July 8 is a pro forma hearing. This means that the case will not be dealt with substantively then.

Promes was arrested in Dubai last Thursday. He landed at Schiphol on Friday evening and was taken away by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.

While he was staying in Dubai, the 33-year-old football player was convicted in absentia for cocaine smuggling and stabbing his cousin. After his extradition on Friday, these two cases will be jointly dealt with on appeal.

Promes had previously indicated that he wanted to return to the Netherlands and attend the hearings in his case, on the condition that he would not be arrested. The Court of Appeal rejected that request.
