Pro-Palestinian protest hinders Vuelta riders: 'Do not endanger lives'

A Pro-Palestinian demonstration again caused a fuss in the Vuelta a España on Tuesday. Protesters hindered the peloton, with a rider from his bike fell. The Vuelta was previously critical of the actions of the demonstrators.

In the tenth stage, a few demonstrators were running the peloton right through the road. Many riders had to slow down or move quickly. Simone Petilli crashed during the incident, but was able to drive the stage.

Several riders have expressed the hope that the protesters will from now on be more careful. “We kindly ask if it can happen in a safe way,” writes Soudal Quick-Step rider Louis Vervaeke on X. “Do not endanger us and your own life.”

It is the second time that demonstrators hinder a stage in the Vuelta. Last week the riders of Israel Prime Minister Tech were stopped during the team time trial. Israel Prime Minister Tech has lately been under fire because of the war acts of main sponsor Israel in Gaza.

Vuelta director Javier Guillén spoke of the incident after the team time trial. “We are going to the police with this, because we cannot allow this. We respect every protest, but then that must take place in a peaceful way.”

The Vuelta will continue on Wednesday with the eleventh stage of 158 kilometers. The peloton must defy seven categorized mountains in Bilbao and the surrounding area.

This is the second time that demonstrators have disrupted a stage in the Vuelta. Last week, The Riders of Israel Prime Minister Tech Were Stopped Dooring the Team Time Trial. Israel Prime Minister Tech HAS Recently Come Under Fire Due to the War Crimes of Main Sponsor Israel in Gaza.
