Just like in the Netherlands, the heat is decreasing in the rest of Europe after some record temperatures. But while it cools down significantly here, the popular holiday destinations will continue to experience temperatures well above 30 degrees.
In several French regions, temperatures have risen to 40 degrees in recent weeks, but the worst of the heat will soon subside. In the Rhône basin, it can still reach 35 to 38 degrees, but in the rest of the country it will be 28 to locally 34 degrees in many places.
Next weekend, some rain and thunderstorms will move across the country from the northwest, causing the sun to disappear regionally for a while. Cooler air flows over the country, but it remains tropical on the south coast.
In Germany too, rain and thunderstorms bring cooling after a period of dry and hot weather. In large parts of the country it was 30 to 37 degrees, but after the weekend it will drop to 19 to 24 degrees. After that, the chance of warm and sunny weather increases again.
The mercury in Spain and Portugal remains high with temperatures of 34 to 38 degrees inland. On the coast, according to Weeronline, it is “much nicer with 29 to 33 degrees”. On the Portuguese coast it is even cooler with 24 to 28 degrees due to the cooling effect of the Atlantic Ocean.
Forest fires in Greece and Turkey
In Italy it has been tropically hot lately. In Rome it was 35 to 37 degrees, much warmer than normal for the time of year. The sun continues to shine brightly in the Italian capital, making it only slightly less warm there at 33 degrees.
The rest of the country is experiencing large differences in temperature. In the south of Italy it will be 34 to 36 degrees next week, but in the north some thunderstorms may occur on Sunday and Monday.
The temperature in Greece also remains well tropical, with regional 35 degrees or more. In Larissa, located centrally in the east of the country, it is very sunny at 36 to 39 degrees. The temperature will drop somewhat over the course of the week. The capital Athens will experience temperatures around 32 degrees, where it was about five degrees higher in recent days.
Due to the heat and drought, parts of Greece are struggling with wildfires. These are fueled by the strong wind. Hundreds of people had to leave their homes. Turkey is also suffering from forest fires as a result of the heat and drought. Tens of thousands of people from various provinces were evacuated.
