Popular holiday countries are bracing themselves for 'sizzling heat and thunderstorm'

The weather in popular European holiday destinations will vary considerably in the coming days. Some countries will experience sweltering heat, reports Weeronline. Other countries will face heavy thunderstorms, or just moderate summer weather.

France is experiencing the biggest shift. The weather is now changeable and quite cool in large parts of the country, with thunderstorms in various regions. These showers will move eastwards over the weekend.

Once the showers have cleared, the temperature will rise rapidly. The north will have summer weather and the center and south will have tropical weather with more sun and locally a few (thunder) showers.

In Dijon, the temperature rises from 23 to 32 degrees, and in the Dordogne it will be even warmer. Paris will have summer temperatures around 25 degrees, while the west coast is cooled by the Atlantic Ocean. In Brittany it remains around 22 degrees.

The showers that leave France via the east often move into Germany. Up to and including Monday, there will be regionally heavier showers with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in a short time. After that, dry and sunny periods increase.

In the south, especially around the Alps, the chance of rain remains greater. With temperatures of 22 to 26 degrees, it is less hot than in the south of Europe.

Southern Europe becomes characteristically hot

Southern Europe is becoming tropically warm on a large scale. Spain, Portugal and Italy will have temperatures around 35 degrees. In the interior of Greece it can even rise to 42 degrees.

On the coast, just like in France, it is less hot due to a cooling wind from the water. Nevertheless, the temperature in Porto rises to 34 degrees. Some showers in the east of Spain still provide cooling, but after the weekend it will remain largely dry there.

Showers occur more often in central and northern Italy. The chance of heavy thunderstorms is greatest on Monday. As a result, Florence cools down to 28 degrees. After that, the sun takes over, although the chance of thunderstorms remains in the north.
