The police in Terneuzen arrested a man on Saturday morning who was a fugitive and still had 750 days of jail time to serve. He is not the only sentence dodger who has recently been arrested.
Officers in Terneuzen recognized the vehicle, which was parked at a house on Korte Dijkstraat. When they searched the house, they found the man, who was hiding under the bed. Next to him was a firearm. The police also found “an amount of drugs,” including at least 50 grams of cocaine.
The fugitive has been arrested for possession of a firearm and drugs. He also has to serve the rest of his prison sentence.
The man in Terneuzen is not the only sentence dodger that the police have recently arrested. The Execution Sentences Punished team of the police in The Hague reported on Friday that it had arrested 26 fugitives in the past two months. They still had to serve a total of 29.5 years in prison.
The specialist team tracks down convicts who are trying to evade their punishment.
Arrested during a break in the sun
The team found most of the fugitives in their homes, with family, or at their girlfriend’s home. Some were arrested while they were in the car or just about to leave. One person was arrested on a platform while on his way to work. Another was arrested in Bodegraven while enjoying the sun during his break.
The convicts were wanted for, among other things, violation of the Opium Act, public violence, computer hacking, participation in a criminal organization, abuse, money laundering, violent theft, and destruction.
In 2024, the EVA team arrested a total of 152 fugitives, good for a total of 286 years of imprisonment.
