A person died in the night from Friday to Saturday due to a large house fire in the Zeeland town of ‘s-Heerenhoek. The fire has since been extinguished.
Emergency services pulled out around 1.30 am for the house fire. In the house, the fire brigade found a person who was provided by ambulance personnel. Around 3.20 the fire brigade announced that the person had died. Later it was announced that there was no one else in the home.
The blazing fire was difficult to extinguish. It soon became clear that the house could no longer be saved. Fire personnel tried to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent shed, but that didn’t work. The house burned completely and the shed had to be extinguished from the inside.
The fire brigade was assisted by several extinguishing vehicles from surrounding Zeeland villages. A special Team Logistics was also used to support the extinguishing staff. The fire brigade itself spoke of a “long -term bet”.
Around 4.45 the fire brigade gave the signal fire master. Some additional work is still being carried out to prevent the fire from flaring up again.
During the extinguishing, the N667 was closed off at ‘s-Heerenhoek because the extinguishing vehicles were set up there. The provincial road was still closed around 5 am. The expectation is that it will open again in the course of the morning.
