The six books that are in the running for the NS Public Choice Award were revealed on Wednesday at The Hague Central Station. Among others, Paulien Cornelisse and Esther Verhoef are among the nominees. Readers can vote on the website of the award starting today.
The nominations this year are for Loaded house by Christien Brinkgreve, The nomad by Anya Niewierra, The confused guinea pig – Back at the office by Paulien Cornelisse, The house with the palm by Esther Verhoef, Elevators to heaven by Lex Paleaux and Mr. Putmans sees the light by Hendrik Groen.
The nominated authors were presented on Wednesday at The Hague Central Station. Travelers could meet the writers and immediately cast their vote for one of the nominated titles.
Brinkgreve and Paleaux are nominated for the largest public prize in the Netherlands for the first time. The other four authors have been on the list before. Niewierra won in 2023 with De Camino , Verhoef has been nominated ten times before and won in 2011 with Déjà vu .
Cornelisse is in the running for the prize for the fourth time, after previous nominations for, among others, Taal voor de leuk and De confused cavia . Groen has been nominated three times before and won the prize in 2016 and 2018.
Winner receives 7,500 euros
Readers can vote for their favorite book via nspublicprijs.nl until 5 pm on November 5. The NS Public Choice Award will be presented for the 38th time this year.
In addition to the honorary title Book of the Year, the NS Public Choice Award consists of a sculpture by Jeroen Henneman, a sum of 7,500 euros and promotion of the book on screens in the NS trains in the week after the presentation.
