A delegation of the Ukrainian government arrived in Washington on Tuesday. They are consulting there with American officials on US military support and sanctions against Russia.
The visit to the US follows negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul on Monday. Agreements were made on the exchange of fallen soldiers.
But no agreement has yet been reached on a ceasefire. It is unclear whether any steps have been taken in that direction. The Ukrainian delegation will discuss the results of the talks with Russia with the US, Andriy Yermak writes on Telegram. Yermak is the chief of staff of President Volodymyr Zelensky and is part of the delegation.
First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko is also at the talks in Washington. Further implementation of the mineral deal that the US and Ukraine concluded last month is also being discussed there. Svyrydenko was also in the White House at the time to sign the mineral deal on behalf of Ukraine.
Four deaths in various Russian attacks
Russia has carried out air strikes in various places in Ukraine in recent hours. Three people were killed in the city of Sumy, according to national security services. At least sixteen people were injured, including four children. Several homes and cars were hit.
Sumy is located in northern Ukraine, about 30 kilometers from the border with Russia. Ukraine is taking into account that Russia wants to launch a major offensive in that region in the coming months. Many Russian troops have been moved to the border near Sumy, Zelensky reported last week.
One Ukrainian was also killed in the Kharkiv region. According to local authorities, a drone hit a private company. Others were injured. There were also injuries in various attacks in other places in Ukraine.
Ukraine invited to NATO summit, according to Zelensky
Furthermore, Ukraine has been invited to the NATO summit in The Hague. Zelensky said this on Monday to journalists after a meeting with NATO leader Mark Rutte in Vilnius. Zelensky has not said whether he himself will travel to The Hague or whether officials will represent his country.
Ukraine is not a member of NATO. But in recent years, Zelensky has attended several NATO summits to discuss the war with Russia.
It is still unclear whether US President Donald Trump approves of Ukraine’s presence at the NATO summit. There are reports that he would object to this. As a result, the arrival of Zelensky or Ukraine is still unclear.
It is still unclear which consultations Ukraine will join. An official council with all NATO members and Ukraine would not be possible, ANP reports based on sources within NATO.
