Poland suffered a setback in the World Cup qualifying group of the Dutch national team on Tuesday. The team of the much-discussed national coach Michal Probierz lost 2-1 to Finland in Helsinki. The match was stopped for no less than forty minutes.
Finland took the lead with a well-placed penalty from Joel Pohjanpalo. Benjamin Källman doubled the lead, assisted by Oliver Antman. The Go Ahead Eagles player was the assist king of the Eredivisie last season (15 assists) and is now living up to that reputation with Finland.
Jakub Kiwior scored for 2-1 a few minutes later. A thrilling final phase was coming, but the match was then stopped for forty minutes due to a medical emergency in the audience. No more goals were scored after that. It is not known how the spectator is doing.
The defeat in Finland marks the end of a turbulent international period for Poland. Star player Robert Lewandowski announced on Sunday that he would no longer play for his country as long as Probierz is national coach. The coach had previously taken away his captaincy.
Poland was initially the biggest competitor of the Dutch national team in Group G, which won 8-0 against Malta on Tuesday. The Finns are now leading with seven points. Oranje is second with six points, but has played two fewer matches.
