OM offers Lil Kleine community service in mistreatment case Jaimie Vaes

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has decided to offer Lil Kleine a community service order of 32 hours “to prevent prosecution for assault” of his ex-partner Jaimie Vaes. The OM announced this on Wednesday.

The rapper was in pre-trial detention for sixteen days. Those days will be offset against the community service, so in practice he will no longer have to perform it.

Jorik Scholten, as the rapper is really called, was arrested in February 2022 after images surfaced showing Vaes being pulled out of Scholten’s car by her hair. Vaes filed a report, reportedly for multiple incidents of violence.

In the images, it looked as if Vaes’ head was trapped between the door. Scholten denied at the time that he had hit Vaes with the car door. Shortly after the incident, Vaes broke off the relationship with Scholten. The couple was engaged at the time.

According to the OM, there is sufficient evidence of abuse on the night of February 11 to 12, 2022. The community service order is, according to the OM, “an appropriate settlement”, partly because the suspicion in the case has been adjusted, almost three years have now passed and the investigation was only completed at the beginning of this year.

OM also takes media attention into account

The media attention surrounding the case also played a role in the decision. “The suspect has already been affected by facts and consequences due to the many negative media attention in connection with this criminal case,” according to the OM.

The images of the incident appeared via Yvonne Coldeweijer’s juice channel. It later became clear that Vaes herself had provided the video to her.

Scholten is “happy that it is now officially established that no one had their head stuck in the door and that there is no question of serious abuse,” his manager said on his behalf. “He has always acknowledged that he acted wrongly that day by removing her from his car in that way. So he accepts the consequences of that and has therefore accepted this proposal.”
