The new president of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) is known. It is Olaf Sleijpen, who will succeed Klaas Knot as the top executive at the financial supervisor on July 1.

DNB announced this on Friday, after Minister of Finance Eelco Heinen decided to nominate Sleijpen. He succeeds the departing Knot, who has been president since 2011.

The new DNB chief is already working at the supervisor, where he is Director of Monetary Affairs. In that role, he is involved in economic policy, financial stability and payment traffic.

“It is a great honor to be able to take on the leadership of DNB. The social challenges we face – from price stability and financial resilience to technological innovation and geopolitical fragmentation – require a central bank that is independent and agile and visible in our society,” said the new president.

The 54-year-old Sleijpen has been a member of the DNB board since February 2020 and previously held various management positions within the central bank, where he focused on the supervision of insurers and pension funds, among other things.

He previously worked at pension fund ABP and pension administrator APG. Between 2001 and 2004 he was an advisor to the then president of the European Central Bank (ECB), the Dutchman Wim Duisenberg.
