Number of Dutch people who receive AOW increased by 1.9 percent to 3.7 million

The Number of People in the Netherlands Receiving an Aow Benefit has increased by approachage 1.9 percent in one year. Accordance to the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), Almost 3.7 Million Dutch People Were Receiving Aow at the End of June.

The General Old Age Pensions Act (AOW) is a Basic Pension for People Aged 67 and about who have lived or worked in the Netherlands. Almost 1.1 Million Aow Beneficiaries Are Older Than Eighty Years, or Whom 2,852 Are Even a Hundred Years or Older.

The Proportion of Women with an Aow Benefit is Slightly Larger at about 53 percent than the proportion of Men (about 47 percent). About 10 percent of AOW Recipients Live Abroad. Most of them live in Belgium, followed by Germany and Spain.

The SVB HAS Noticed for some time that the number of people with an incomplete Aow Benefit is growing. These are of people who have lived or worked abroad for a period, or who moved to the Netherlands at a later age.

At the end of June 2024, there were Almost 3.6 Million Aow Beneficiaries in the Netherlands. That was also an increase compared to the year before: 0.8 percent more than at the end of June 2023.

Because and more aow beneficiaries are being added, aow costs are rising rapidly. In 2024, The Total Costs Were Around 51.9 Billion Euros. The Government Therefore Has to Add More and More Tax Money. Meanwhile, More Than Half of the Aow Money Comes from the Treasury.
