NS staff ceases on Friday in the north and south of the Netherlands

NS personnel will strike again on Friday. Employees in the North and South Netherlands regions are striking due to dissatisfaction with their wages.

The NS and the unions have not yet reached an agreement on a new collective labor agreement after 4.5 months of negotiations. The railway company is sticking to its guns with a wage offer of 2.55 percent.

But the employees think that is too little and want to be compensated for the high inflation. There is also no agreement on early retirement, where people can stop working earlier.

The unions had previously announced a strike for Thursday, but that has been canceled. They had received signals that the NS had an alternative timetable ready.

CNV director Henk Jongsma tells NU.nl that it was a conscious choice not to let the strike go through on Thursday. The unions are trying to cause more unrest at the NS and put pressure on the company to go along with the collective labor agreement requirements.
