In het afgelopen half jaar zijn er meer tweedehands auto’s verkocht dan een jaar eerder. Waar moet je op letten bij de aanschaf van zo’n voertuig? En wat zijn de verschillen tussen een volledig elektrische auto en een dieselbak?
Aangezien nieuwe auto’s steeds duurder worden, is het niet gek dat consumenten verder kijken dan de auto’s in de showroom. Het aanbod van tweedehands voertuigen is groot, maar daar zitten niet alleen parels tussen.
Wil je een goede aankoop doen, dan is het volgens Youssef Arouss van Expert2Go, waar ze aankoopkeuringen uitvoeren op tweedehands auto’s, belangrijk om jezelf af te vragen hoeveel kilometer je jaarlijks verwacht te gaan rijden. Maar ook hoe ver je gemiddeld zal rijden, hoe je toekomst eruitziet en hoe milieubewust je wil zijn.
Vervolgens is er de keuze tussen een auto die op benzine of diesel rijdt. Of als je inderdaad milieubewuster wil rijden: tussen een hybride of volledig elektrische wagen. Wil je zo goedkoop mogelijk uit zijn, dan raadt hij aan een benzineauto te kiezen.
“Vroeger kon diesel aantrekkelijker zijn als je veel kilometers maakte, maar tegenwoordig is dat verschil in gebruikskosten kleiner.” Zelfs als je verwacht veel te gaan rijden. Daarnaast is deze brandstof slechter voor het milieu.
Controleer de batterij van een elektrische occasion
Als je het klimaat belangrijk vindt, is een elektrische auto de betere keuze. Het is belangrijk om dan goed te letten op het bouwjaar van de wagen. “Kies je voor een die er al wat jaren op heeft zitten, controleer dan de batterij. Dat geldt ook voor de ophanging van de auto, het systeem dat de wielen met de carrosserie verbindt en ervoor zorgt dat de wielen contact blijven houden met de weg.
Pak bij de proefrit ook de snelweg mee
Arouss benadrukt dat iedere auto voor- en nadelen heeft. Wat voor jou de beste keus is, hangt af van hoe vaak, ver en veel je wil rijden.
En van je budget: een tweedehands diesel- of benzineauto is al te vinden voor 1.000 euro. Aan een degelijke elektrische auto ben je minstens 10.000 euro kwijt.
Waar je op moet letten als je in de garage staat
Vergeet de wegenbelasting niet
Auto-expert Mike in ‘t Hout met een eigen garage tipt de onderhoudshistorie van een auto – voor zover dat kan – na te trekken. Daarmee sjoemelen is strafbaar, toch heeft hij het weleens zien gebeuren. “Twijfel je of de kilometerstand klopt, lees dan de apk-keuring door. Aan de hand daarvan kun je al snel zien of die stand logisch is of niet.”
En vergeet ook de wegenbelasting niet. “Voor een zwaardere auto betaal je meer belasting”, zegt In ‘t Hout. Een elektrische auto is op dit moment nog vrijgesteld van belasting, vult Arouss aan. “Omdat ze de keuze hiervoor nu nog willen stimuleren. Al is de verwachting wel dat daar tussen 2027 en 2030 verandering in gaat komen. Dat is dus iets om rekening mee te houden.”
Wat je ook doet: het is belangrijk om goed na te denken over waar jij de auto voor gaat gebruiken. Weeg in ieder geval de voor- en nadelen goed tegen elkaar af. Sta je bij de auto die je denkt te gaan kopen, dan raadt In ‘t Hout aan ook te letten op de staat van de pedalen en versnellingspook. “En kijk als je een rondje om de auto loopt ook naar de naden van de portieren. Verschillen die links en rechts, dan is de kans groot dat er schade is geweest. En weet dat je met een zo goedkoop mogelijke auto uiteindelijk waarschijnlijk duurder uit bent.”
Sluit voor de zekerheid een verzekering af
Heb je het oog op een mooie bolide laten vallen, maar blijkt er achteraf toch iets mis te zijn? Het is aan te raden voor de aankoop een BOVAG-verzekering af te sluiten. Deze verzekering dekt gebreken die in de garantieperiode ontstaan en niet zichtbaar waren toen je de auto kocht.

Also take the highway during the test drive
Arouss emphasizes that every car has advantages and disadvantages. What is the best choice for you depends on how often, far and how much you want to drive.
And on your budget: a used diesel or gasoline car can already be found for 1,000 euros. A decent electric car will cost you at least 10,000 euros.
What to pay attention to when you are in the garage
Don’t forget the road tax
Car expert Mike in ‘t Hout with his own garage advises to check the maintenance history of a car – as far as possible. Tampering with it is punishable, yet he has seen it happen sometimes. “If you doubt whether the mileage is correct, read the MOT inspection. Based on that, you can quickly see whether that mileage is logical or not.”
And don’t forget the road tax. “You pay more tax for a heavier car,” says In ‘t Hout. An electric car is currently exempt from tax, Arouss adds. “Because they still want to encourage the choice for this now. Although the expectation is that this will change between 2027 and 2030. So that is something to take into account.”
Whatever you do: it is important to think carefully about what you are going to use the car for. In any case, weigh the pros and cons carefully against each other.
