For a truly faster smartphone, you often simply need a new, faster device. But with one trick, you can already make an iPhone feel a bit faster.
You can disable the animations of the operating system on a smartphone. This means you no longer see how, for example, an app disappears downwards when you swipe it away, but you immediately see the icon screen you wanted to navigate to. Everything you do on your smartphone happens immediately after a swipe.
The difference in speed here isn’t very big, but after all the swipes and taps you make in a day, the milliseconds gained add up. Moreover, it feels psychologically like a big speed improvement: because you see apps close and open immediately, the operating system seems to react more directly to your commands.
On the other hand, your phone will feel a little less natural. The mobile operating system is made to feel like a physical place, where apps are located on top of an icon screen and you move left and right. By turning off the animations, you lose that feeling.
Accessibility Trick
You can disable the animations of your iPhone in the Settings app, under the heading ‘Accessibility’. The function was initially intended for users who are sensitive to the complex animations of iOS, for example due to a visual impairment.
In the opened screen, tap on ‘Motion’. By turning on the ‘Reduce Motion’ switch, and swiping up to exit the app, you immediately see what impact the option has on your smartphone.
Do you have an Android phone? Then open the Settings app and go to ‘Accessibility’. Under the ‘Display’ option, you can go to ‘Colors and motion’, where you see an option to turn off animations.
