On Friday evening the original K3 members, Karen Damen, Kristel Verbeke and Kathleen Aerts, will start with a series of concerts. An almost sold out series will follow in Rotterdam Ahoy in April. Nu.nl spoke two readers who have obtained cards. “Back in time.”
Amarins Weistra (28) will go on April 11 with her aunt, mother and two nieces to a concert by the K3 Originals. “I have been practicing in my car for weeks. All the hits come by again and I am surprised how much I can still sing along.”
The love for K3 arises for Amarins at a young age. “I have been singing everything with me since I was four,” she says. “CDs, pillows, puzzles, pen trays, place mats, blankets, mugs … you name it, I had everything from K3.” Together with her mother, she sings the songs as a little girl and plays with girlfriends K3. “The music is always cheerful and you can get a lot out of the lyrics. Sometimes you even learn about falling in love,” she laughs.
That nostalgia comes up extra now that Amarins himself is expecting a daughter. “The songs give me a lot of nostalgic feelings, especially when I think back to how my mother and I used to listen together. I can’t wait to listen to my little girl.”
On April 28 this year, Amarins tried to get hold of tickets together with her family. They were ready with five screens and constantly tried to change the sales page, but it didn’t work. “Until someone posted a link on the K3 Originals Facebook page. After two hours in excitement, I finally had five seats next to each other at a top spot!”
From Oya Lélé to the 3 piglets
The merchandise also receives attention: Amarins and her family coordinate their clothing with K3 accessories, such as socks or maybe a shirt. Practicing the music is the most important thing. “My favorite songs are Oya Lélé and from the musicals I especially like the 3 piglets and K3 around the world around .
For Amarins, the concert is all about pleasure and recalling memories. “The original K3 numbers remain the best. They are cheerful, sometimes calm and above all recognizable. It really feels like back in time.”
‘Even saved papers from the cookies’
Renée Nederveen-Zijlmans (28) also has tickets. Next year she will go with her mother to a concert of the K3 Originals in Rotterdam. As a child she was a big fan. “Everything was K3 with me: from a friend’s book to clothing, I even saved the papers of the cookies,” she says. As a child she went to every concert with her mother.
Those memories are the deciding factor to give her mother cards on Mother’s Day. It turns out to be a hit: for both of them it will mainly be an evening full of youth sentiment. “My mother used to go for me, but now she really likes it.”
Buying tickets was the biggest challenge. Renée only heard late that the Originals will perform again and several shows were already sold out at that time. Eventually she managed to get hold of two tickets. “I was ready for it and bought them exactly on the minute. Then I shouted to my husband:” Hihi, I just have tickets! “
Renée still gets a bit in itself what the evening will bring. She still doubts about her outfit, but already knows what she hopes to hear: the original songs. “If they play Oya Lélé or Hippie Shake , the youth sentiment is complete.”
