PFAS do not break down in blood, but your body can excrete the substance. “There are many different types of PFAS,” Van Wezel explains. “Many of them can bind well, they do so strongly on proteins, among other things. Proteins separate you through liquid from your body, for example pee and shit.”

What are PFAS?

According to De Boer, 20 percent of the PFAS that we receive comes through drinking water. How much PFAS is in drinking water also depends on whether the drinking water comes from the river or soil. “If it is out of the river, there are more PFAS in than if it is made from groundwater,” says De Boer.
