NOS is going to sell part of broadcasting rights WK 2026 due to cuts

The NOS will sell part of the broadcasting rights for the 2026 World Cup, NOS Sport editor-in-chief Xander van der Wulp said on Tuesday evening on Humberto. The sale has to do with cutbacks within the broadcasting organization.

“It is a difficult decision,” said Van der Wulp. “But we can’t keep everything with us anymore.”

The cabinet wants to cut millions of euros from the NPO from 2027. As a result, various broadcasters have already had to scrap programs.

Van der Wulp mentioned commercial parties such as RTL, SBS, ESPN, Viaplay and Ziggo Sport as potential candidates for the rights. “We must also realize that it is realistic that a commercial party will do it,” he said.

The matches of the Dutch national team will probably be broadcast by the NOS.

The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
