Tuesday morning, there are no trains to and from Schiphol Airport due to a power outage. ProRail reports that it will need at least the entire morning to repair the damage. The timing of the outage is particularly unfortunate given the NATO summit in The Hague.
Around 3:45 AM, a fire broke out in the power cables, a ProRail spokesperson told NU.nl. The repair will take “a large part of the day” and will take at least the entire morning.
NS reports that no trains can run to and from Schiphol Airport until 8:15 AM, but according to ProRail, it will probably take longer. The spokesperson calls the outage “very unfortunate” given the NATO summit.
Due to the summit, many major highways in the Randstad are closed. An NS spokesperson cannot say whether this is causing more crowding on the trains. She advises travelers to seek alternative transportation to the airport.
NS is not deploying buses because the outage is too large and it is not possible to solve it with replacement transport.
ProRail cannot yet say whether there is any sabotage. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
