A New Zealand man who disappeared with his children in 2021 was seen this week on security cameras in the north of the country. The father has no legal authority about his children and has been sought by the police since his disappearance.
The images show how Tom Phillips and one of his abducted children try to break into a supermarket in Piopio, a place more than 200 kilometers from the big city of Auckland. It is the first time in a year that something is heard from Philips.
The images are early in the morning from last Wednesday. You can see how a masked man with his child studies the windows of a store. He then uses electrical tools to break inside.
The pair leaves with the stolen groceries on a quad. According to the local police, Phillips and the child were at the location for a total of thirteen minutes.
In the fall of 2023, the fugitive father also tried to break into one of his children in the supermarket in Piopio. That then failed, reports The Guardian .
Phillips disappeared with children in 2021
Phillips disappeared in December 2021 with three children, who are now nine, ten and twelve years old. Until that time they lived at a family farm in Marokopa, not far from Piopio.
The father has no legal authority about his children. The police suspect that the four have been living in the forest area of Waikato’s King County since their disappearance. They probably get outside help to stay out of the hands of the authorities.
In the spring of 2023, Phillips was probably left with a robbery on a bank. Since then he has been sought for the robbery, abuse and firearm possession.
The Phillips family has begged him several times to report. The police say that the health of the children remains top priority. A reward of 80,000 dollars (around 69,000) euros has been promised for information about the man’s place of residence.
