New radar and dome placed on the Schiphol traffic tower

The Schiphol Traffic Control Tower has a New Dome with Radar Equipment. The White Dome was placed on Sunday with a high crane after a first attempt failed on Saturday due to the strong wind. The Old Dome had to be replaced after Thirteen years.

The Previous Radome – As Such A Protective Dome is called – was worn out, result in Leaks. Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) also Decided to Imediately Replace the Radar on the 101-meter-High Traffic Control Tower.

The Rotating Radar was also due for replacement. Therefore, it was more efficient to replace it together with the dome. IT Protects the Radar.

The Old Dome and Radar Were Removed on Saturday. The New Equipment had to be placed that same day. But the wind picked up. As a result, the dome moved back and forest’s prospective when the crane lifted the structure. That is why the attempt was called off. It finally successed on Sunday.
