NEC returns Tjaronn Chery (37) to Eredivisie after one season

Tjaronn Chery returns to NEC after a year. The 37-year-old midfielder arrives from Royal Antwerp and signs a three-year contract in Nijmegen.

Chery also played for NEC in the 2023/2024 season, who had loaned him from the Israeli Maccabi Haifa after the winter break. He then accounted for six goals and four assists in eighteen games.

Last summer, Chery moved to Royal Antwerp. At the Belgian club, he contributed 18 goals and 9 assists in 45 matches.

“I didn’t have to think long when the opportunity arose to bring Tjaronn back to the Netherlands,” says Carlos Aalbers, director of player affairs at NEC. “With Tjaronn, we are bringing in a top professional who is far from finished.”

Chery can’t wait to play for NEC again. “And what I’m most looking forward to? That the whole stadium will sing my song again when I score. Make sure your voice is warmed up.”

NEC is quite active in the transfer market. Earlier, the Nijmegen team strengthened with goalkeeper Gonzalo Crettaz and attackers Youssef El Kachati and Virgil Misidjan.
