Musical Maybe Happy Ending drags most Tony Awards

Maybe Happy Ending won six awards at the Tony Awards on Sunday evening. The Broadway version of the Korean musical won awards for best musical, best script, and best original score, among others.

The awards for best direction, best scenic design, and best lead actor also went to Maybe Happy Ending. The latter award was for actor Darren Criss, known from the TV series Glee.

Maybe Happy Ending premiered in South Korea in 2016 and made its Broadway debut in 2024. The musical is about the friendship between two humanoid robots. The lyrics were written by Hue Park, the music was composed by Will Aronson, and the script is by both of them.

Singer Nicole Scherzinger won an award for her leading role in Sunset Boulevard. The musical was also awarded the Tony Awards for best revival and best lighting.

The award for best play went to Purpose. Kara Young won a Tony for her supporting role in the play. Last year, the actress also took home the award, then for her role in Purlie Victorious.

The Tony Awards, which have been presented annually since 1947, are considered the most important American theater awards.
