A museum in the American city of Denver has found a fossil of a dinosaur under its own parking space. The Denver Museum of Nature and Sciences is known for the exhibitions of Dinosaurs. The museum will exhibit the found bot itself.
The bone found has about the dimensions of an ice hockey puck. The bone was at a depth of 230 meters and by chance came up with drilling in the ground under the parking lot of the museum.
The chance that there is a fossil in a drill core is very small. A drilling core is only a few centimeters in size. “It’s like hitting a hole-in-one from the moon,” the museum’s curator told AP . “It’s like winning a ticket for the Willy Wonka chocolate factory. It is incredible and super shaking.”
The bone is a vertebra of an unknown dinosaur. According to experts, the form of the fossil seems to indicate that it is a Thellosaurus, a small, bip to herbivore that lived 66 to 100 million years ago. “It is a surprising find, but scientifically it doesn’t represent that much,” a paleontologist told AP .
The museum will not dig any further into the rest of the Dinobots. “I would like to dig a large hole of 230 meters deep to deepen the rest of the dinosaur. But I don’t think that will continue. We really need that parking space,” says the curator.
