The Ukrainian authorities report that Russia has carried out one of the largest combined attacks with drones and missiles on Kyiv since the beginning of the war. At least fifteen people were injured, the majority in the capital Kyiv.
The Air Force reports on Telegram that Russia deployed 250 long-range drones and fourteen ballistic missiles in attacks overnight. The capital was said to be the main target. According to a statement, 245 drones and six missiles were shot down or neutralized.
Journalists in Kyiv heard explosions, and authorities reported fires and falling debris from drones. According to The Kyiv Independent, these also caused damage.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russian attack shows that there is only one party that wants the war to continue, namely Moscow. Zelensky reiterates on X that a stronger signal to Russia is needed, especially from the United States.
Washington has been emphasizing a ceasefire since the beginning of March, something Ukraine has already agreed to. But Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to make new demands and distract his American counterpart Donald Trump.
Nevertheless, the Russian refusal to negotiate seriously has not yet resulted in additional American sanctions. Zelensky states that only heavy economic sanctions can force Putin to a ceasefire.
