Missing Kat from Beverwijk found in Dordrecht after 4.5 years

A family from Beverwijk has found their lost cat after more than 4.5 years. In 2020, the pet presumably traveled with the family to Dordrecht, more than 100 kilometers away.

The family is now certain that cat Angel had traveled to the South Holland city. “We were picking up a cabinet via Marktplaats. She probably traveled under the hood,” owner Eileen told NH News.

Peter, the other owner, did see “something shoot away” under the car upon arrival in Dordrecht. “But I didn’t pay attention to it.” Upon returning home, their cat was nowhere to be found.

The family, among other things, put up flyers to find Angel. Peter says that the hope for a good ending faded with time. “A year becomes two years, three years. So at some point you think: she’s never coming back.”

Until Eileen received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number last week. “Hello, are you the owner of Angel?” The message included a photo of the cat, now eleven years old.

The number turned out to be from a resident of Dordrecht who had seen the cat walking around his house for several days. Via Angel’s chip, the South Hollander got Eileen and Peter’s number.

The next day, the family picked up their lost pet. “When she heard our voices, she immediately came to us and gave us head bumps,” the family said. It is unknown whether Angel lived on the streets all those years or whether someone took her in.
