Twelve -year -old Esther from the Frisian village of Blauwhuis, who has been missing since 11 August, was found. The police report this on X. Her mother has been arrested.
The girl’s mother contacted the police on Wednesday. Esther was then transferred to the police in good health at another location.
Her mother was arrested. The police are further investigating the case. “Due to privacy reasons and the importance of the investigation, no further details are announced,” the police say.
Esther was last seen on Monday 11 August around 2.30 pm on the Tsjerkebuorren in Aldeboarn, just under 30 kilometers from Blauwhuis. Just before her disappearance, she still had contact with her mother. Then her mother got into the car and left.
That same evening her mother was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the loss. Esther was not with her then. She was allowed to go home after an interrogation, but remained the suspect in the investigation.
The police took several scenarios into account. The most likely scenario for the police was that Esther was placed with others by the mother. The police emphasized earlier on Wednesday that accommodating a child while the authority lies with another person is punishable.
Esther’s mother was arrested last July when she withdrew Esther from authority. Withdrawal of authority means that a minor is kept outside of legal authority. This can, for example, concern the authority of the other parent or a guardian.
Because of the privacy, the police cannot say who has legal authority about Esther. In any case, that authority does not seem to be with her mother, but the police cannot confirm that either.
