Minute silence at European Women for deceased Diogo Jota and his brother

On Thursday and Friday, a minute of silence will be held for all games at the European Women’s European Championship in memory of the deceased Diogo Jota (28) and his younger brother AndrĂ© Silva.

The Portuguese Football Association (FPF) had submitted a request to UEFA to keep a minute of silence for the Spain-Portugal match. The European Football Association agreed and also considered the death of Jota at the other matches on Thursday and Friday.

Jota and his brother died on Thursday morning in a traffic accident in Zamora, Spain. The accident happened on the A52. The duo was in a Lamborghini, who, according to Spanish media, got off the road and caught fire.

UEFA chairman Aleksander Ceferin says he is shocked. “Three weeks ago I had the honor to hand over a medal after the Nations League final. That was a moment of joy and pride, which is now engraved in my memory forever, full of sorrow,” he writes.

“His passion, energy and enthusiasm on the field has inspired many. It is heartbreaking to think that a life full of joy ended much too early. Rest softly, dear Diogo. We will not forget you.”

On thursday and Friday, a minute of silence will be observed for all matches at the Women’s European Championship in Memory of the deceased Diogo Jota (28) and his Younger Brother AndrĂ© Silva.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) had submitted a Request to UEFA to Observe a Minute of Silence Before the Spain-Portugal Match. The European Football Association Has Agreed to this and will also Commemorate Jota’s Death at the Other Matches on Thorsday and Friday.
