Lionel Messi has once again made history on Wednesday night. The Argentinian superstar scored twice for the fourth league game in a row. Inter Miami won 1-2 against New England Revolution thanks to Messi.
Before Inter Miami traveled to the Club World Cup, Messi was already in good form. He scored twice against both CF Montréal and Columbus Crew. After the disappointing exit at the FIFA club tournament, he continued his streak.
On Sunday, Messi was once again accurate twice against CF Montréal (4-1), after which the 193-time Argentinian international also shot twice against New England Revolution four days later.
After 27 minutes he scored against New England Revolution. Messi opened the score with a volley after a clumsy pass back. At the stroke of half-time, the 38-year-old standout scored again. He slid the ball in from the edge of the box after a pass from Sergio Busquets.
Thanks to Messi’s two goals, Inter Miami won for the fourth time in a row. At the Club World Cup, the MLS club did not progress beyond the quarter-finals. In a painful reunion with Messi’s old club Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Miami lost 4-0.
Messi is reportedly extending his contract with Inter Miami. The contract of the eight-time Golden Ball winner expires on December 31. He was also linked with Al Hilal, but is said to have no interest in moving to Saudi Arabia.
