Mayor Los Angeles scraps evening clock in front of the city center

The curfew that was in effect last week in downtown Los Angeles due to unrest has been lifted. Mayor Karen Bass announced this on Tuesday. The protests in the Californian city were against the actions of the immigration service ICE.

According to Mayor Bass, the number of acts of violence and looting has decreased significantly this week, making it possible to abolish the curfew.

Restrictions were in effect in a part of downtown Los Angeles between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM since last week Tuesday. On Monday, Bass already announced that the start time of the curfew would be moved to 10:00 PM. Now the restrictions are being lifted completely.

Earlier this month, parts of Los Angeles were restless for days. The protests arose after arrests of undocumented aliens by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In particular, the way ICE worked rubbed many residents the wrong way. According to them, there was arbitrariness.

President Donald Trump was at odds with both Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom during the unrest. For example, Trump decided to deploy troops from the National Guard in Los Angeles amid protests against stricter immigration laws. California then asked the court to block the deployment of troops in the city. The court ruled that the National Guard had been unlawfully mobilized by Trump.
