Manchester United resigns 75 million euros for striker Cunha after ramps season

Manchester United has presented its first summer signing on Sunday. After a disastrous season, the fallen giant is taking over striker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for 75 million euros.

Manchester United is thereby activating the buyout clause in the contract of the 26-year-old Cunha at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He signs a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with an option for another year.

Cunha accounted for fifteen goals and six assists in the Premier League last season. The Brazilian also made the news by pulling the glasses off the face of a staff member of Ipswich Town during a scuffle. He received a suspension of two games and a fine of 95,000 euros for that.

With Cunha in the selection, Manchester United wants to break the downward spiral. Trainer RĂºben Amorim’s team finished in fifteenth place in the Premier League last season, the lowest ranking since the relegation in 1974.

The Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur was also lost (1-0), meaning Manchester United will not be playing European football next season. This also means the club will miss out on tens of millions of euros.

It promises to be a busy transfer summer at Manchester United, which, under the leadership of co-owner Jim Ratcliffe, is making significant cuts to continue paying the bills. Among others, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are nominated to leave.
