Manchester City started the Club World Cup on Wednesday with a comfortable victory. The English top club, for which Tijjani Reijnders made his debut, defeated Moroccan Wydad AC 2-0.
Phil Foden opened the scoring for Manchester City after just two minutes. The Englishman shot successfully after Wydad goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid had saved an attempt by former PSV player Savinho.
Jérémy Doku made it 2-0 just before half-time. The Belgian headed in from a Foden corner. No more goals were scored after that in Philadelphia. City finished the match with ten men due to a red card for Rico Lewis in the final phase.
Reijnders, who arrived last week from AC Milan for around 70 million euros, was in the starting lineup and played the entire match. Nathan Aké also completed the ninety minutes at City. Bart Meijers and Nordin Amrabat appeared at the kick-off at Wydad.
Manchester City and Wydad are in a group with Juventus and Al Ain. ‘The Old Lady’ and the club from the United Arab Emirates will play each other tonight (3:00 AM Dutch time).
