Macrons ally Lecornu becomes fifth French prime minister in two years

The French President Emmanuel Macron Appointed His Ally Sébastien Lecornu as the New Prime Minister on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, François Bayrou had submitted his resignation as prime minister after losing a vote of no confidence in Parliament on Monday.

The 39-Year-Old Lecornu was Until Recently Minister of Defense. He is the fifth French Prime Minister in Two Years and the Seventh That Macron Has Appointed Since Taking Office in 2017.

The New Prime Minister is Considered a Loyal Ally of Macron. Lecornu Has Been a Member of his Political Party Renaissance (Formly Known As La République and Marche!) From the Beginning. He was also Closely Involved in Macron’s Presidential Campaign in 2022.

With Lecornu, Macron is opting for some from the right-conservative wing and for continuity. Earlier There was speculation that the President would give some some from a left-wing party a Chance as Prime Minister. Like His Predecessor, Lecornu Will Head a Minority Government.

The Frenchman’s immediate task is to get a budget approved for 2026. His predecessor Bayrou’s Proposal LED to a motion of no confidence and his resignation. Bayrou had Propose, Among Other Things, to Save 44 Billion Euros and Scrap Two Vacation Days.

‘You Cannot Erase Reality’

France is struggling with a large budget deficit. At 5 percent, the deficit is the highest within the eu. It is also well above the 3 percent imposed on EU Member States. The Question is Whether Lecornu Can Convince the Center-Left Socialist Party and the Radical-Right Party Rassemblement National To Make Cuts.

On Wednesday, a full day of protests Will Take Place in France Under the Name “Bloquons Tout” (Block Everything). These are Aimed, Among Other Things, Against the Large-Scale Cuts That Bayrou Wanted to Implement. The Ministry of the Interior Has Announced that it will deploy apprimately 80,000 Troops, Including Gendarmes, to Ensure That Everything Runs Smoothly.

Before the vote on the motion of no confidence, Bayrou said that his departure would not solve the French problems. “You have the power to bring down the government, but not to erase reality,” he said. “Spending Will Continue to Rise and the Debt Burden Will Become Even Heavier and More Expendive.”

The Next French Presidential Elections Will Take Place around April 2027. There are no indications that macron hens to step down earlier due to the ongoing political crisis.
