Club icon Luka Modric said goodbye to Real Madrid on Saturday. ‘The Royal’ won 2-0 against Real Sociedad. Coach Carlo Ancelotti also said farewell to the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid had little at stake in the last La Liga match of the season. The home team had already secured second place in the final standings, behind national champion FC Barcelona.
Real concluded the season with a good feeling by winning 2-0 against Real Sociedad. Kylian Mbappé scored both goals. The French star player crowned himself with 31 goals as top scorer of the Spanish competition.
After this, there was plenty of time to put Modric in the spotlight. The 39-year-old Croatian, who is leaving Real Madrid after thirteen seasons and countless prizes, was taken off the field to loud applause a few minutes before the final whistle. His family was waiting for him there.
Coach Ancelotti also said goodbye to the public in Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. The 65-year-old Italian was coach of Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015 and from 2021 to 2025. He has a new job as national coach of Brazil.
It is not known where Modric will continue his career. The playmaker is linked to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. Modric wants to participate in his tenth final tournament with Croatia at the World Cup next year.
