A Large Iron Meteorite from the Mercury Observatory in Dordrecht was auctioned on Saturday for just about 2 million euros. The Buyer is from the United States. Accordance to auction house Hessink, it is the heavyiest iron meteorite ever auctioned.
It was expected beforehand that the sale of the gibon meteorite would yield between 800,000 and 1 million euros. The Meteorite was Sold for 1.7 Million Euros. Including Auction Costs, The Amount Comes to over 2 Million Euros.
At 240 kilos, it is the heavyiest iron meteorite ever to go under the hammer. The Previous Record was 100 kilos. The Space Rock was on display this Summer at the Space Expo Space Museum in Noordwijk.
