Suzan Lamens has reached the second round of the Libéma Open on Tuesday after a long day. The Dutch player won in Rosmalen against the Belgian Yanina Wickmayer after the match was interrupted twice due to rain: 6-3, 0-6 and 6-3.
Lamens and Wickmayer started as planned at 11:00 AM, not knowing it would be a long day on the grass of Rosmalen. The Dutch player started excellently, but she failed to carry her good play into the second set.
The Berkelse player struggled on her own serve and lost the set without winning a single point against the Belgian, who has played little due to an injury and has dropped to 995th place in the world rankings. She will stop after Wimbledon.
The match was then stopped for over an hour due to rain. That suited Lamens well, because afterwards she performed much better. With a 4-3 lead, she had to go inside again due to the rain, but that didn’t bother her.
Lamens will play in the second round against the winner of the match between Ann Li from the United States and the Russian Anastasia Potapova. Due to all the delays, it is not yet clear whether that match will be played on Tuesday.
