Kruidvat and Trekpleister are recalling an unsafe baby swimming ring due to a risk of drowning. Nearly four thousand units of this “baby float with panther print” were sold in May and June. “Stop using it immediately,” the drugstore chains advise.
The risk of drowning arises from a “loose seam at the bottom,” according to the warning. “This causes the seat to detach from the top of the baby float more quickly, posing a risk of drowning.” The ring is intended for children up to twelve months.
This concerns products with the barcode 8721197410749 that were purchased between May 5 and June 17 of this year. Anyone who has such a float is advised to stop using it immediately. Consumers can return the product to the store. The stores will refund the full purchase price, even without a receipt.
The chains also advise spreading the warning. “Especially if you know that the recalled product has been offered, lent, or sold to someone else.”
Slightly less than four thousand units of the ring have been sold, according to a spokesperson for wholesaler The Essentials. “Despite all the safety tests, it still happened. As soon as we received the notification, we carried out a check and then reported it to the NVWA.”
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) also issued a safety warning for the product.
