KLM has informed customers about a data breach in which data has ended up on the street. This includes names and contact information. According to the airline, sensitive data has not been compromised.

The leak was found on an external platform that KLM and Air France use for their customer service. “Customer data was illegally accessed,” a KLM spokesperson said. “We are very sorry that this has happened.”

According to the airline, IT security teams, together with the external party, immediately took action to stop the unauthorized access. They have also ensured that it cannot happen again.

The spokesperson said that internal Air France and KLM systems were not affected. “No sensitive data such as passwords, travel data, Flying Blue miles, passport or credit card details have been stolen.”

KLM has reported the data breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority. In France, Air France has done the same with privacy supervisor CNIL.

KLM advises customers whose data may have been accessed to be extra alert for suspicious emails or phone calls.
