KLM device makes emergency landing in Hamburg after smoke comes out of engine

A KLM aircraft had to make an emergency landing at the airport in Hamburg on Wednesday after smoke came from one of the engines. The safety of the passengers was not compromised, a spokesperson tells NU.nl.

The spokesperson confirms the emergency landing after the German newspaper BILD wrote about it. The aircraft, a Boeing 737, made an emergency landing around 3:45 AM while en route from the Swedish capital Stockholm to Amsterdam.

The plane was flying over the south of Denmark when the pilots saw smoke coming from the left engine. According to the KLM spokesperson, this was due to a low oil level.

The pilots made an emergency landing as a precaution. As a result, the airport in Hamburg temporarily declared a state of emergency, which meant that all air traffic was stopped, reports BILD. Air traffic was restarted after thirty minutes.

The 186 passengers are stranded at the airport in Germany, but will be rebooked as soon as possible.
