Deurne train station received an unexpected visitor on Monday morning: a kangaroo. The animal hoped over the track, so trains had to run slower. Eventually the kangaroo was caught a little further.
Train travelers looked up surprised when they saw the animal on track 3 around 6 am. Trains had to run more temporarily, until the animal was no longer on the track.
Also for the employees of the Dutch Railways and ProRail it was a while to adjust the train traffic because of an escaped kangaroo. ProRail incidents has managed to drive the animal out of the rail environment, a spokesperson told NU.nl. The kangaroo was caught in a nearby residential area and was returned to the owner.
In the Netherlands it has been forbidden since July 2024 to keep a kangaroo as a pet. Only kangaroos who were in the Netherlands before this date may stay. The animals can also change ownership.
It is not clear whether this was a wallaby or a kangaroo. A Wallaby belongs to the kangaroo-like, but is smaller in piece.
