The jury in the case against 55-year-old rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has reached a partial verdict. The jury agreed on four counts, but could not yet reach a decision on a fifth count.
What the verdict on the four counts is, remains unknown. The charge on which the jurors failed to reach consensus concerns participation in a criminal organization. This could carry the heaviest penalty.
The prosecution and the defense have both requested that the jury continue deliberations, which the judge has also requested. The jury will continue deliberations on Wednesday at 3:00 PM Dutch time.
The deliberation of the twelve jurors began last Monday in New York. They must decide whether Diddy is guilty or innocent of the facts he is accused of. If the jury has unanimously reached a verdict, the judge will impose a sentence.
The jury reached agreement on charges of sexual exploitation and transporting persons for prostitution. These charges relate to Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and a woman who gave a statement under the name Jane. In total, more than thirty witnesses were heard in the case.
If Diddy is found guilty on all counts, he faces a life sentence. He himself says he is innocent.
