The court in Rotterdam wants to hear outgoing Prime Minister Dick Schoof as a witness in the case of a former NCTV employee, who is suspected of leaks. Schoof was previously the head of the NCTV.
The case revolves around Abderrahim El M., who worked for years as an interpreter and analyst for the National Coordinator of Terrorism and Security (NCTV). El M. was arrested in 2023 on suspicion of leaking large quantities of state secret information to the Moroccan government.
Schoof led the NCTV between 2013 and 2018. The judge thinks that he may be able to explain about “the internal vision of the position of the suspect in the organization and the access of the suspect to – and dealing with – state secret and confidential documents,” says an explanation.
The current head of the NCTV, Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg, has also been assigned as a witness in the case.
The interrogations of Schoof and Aalbersberg will take place behind closed doors with the investigating judge. They are therefore not public for the press and public.
