Jonker inspected training field in Switzerland to prevent new debacle

National coach Andries Jonker has traveled to Switzerland twice to the European Championship to inspect the training field of Orange. He does not expect a repeat of two years ago, when everything was wrong during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Orange was confronted with a very bad field in Sydney, after which the team ran out to the field of a private school. In New Zealand it was hit again: the field in Tauranga was normally a cricket field, so that a hard plate lay under the grass at the center circle. To prevent injuries, the plate was trained.

Jonker has been to Switzerland twice to the European Championship to view training locations. “I have seen many fields in Switzerland. In general, it didn’t have it, but the promise is that our field is now good.”

The choice eventually fell on a training field in Thun. Orange will finish the first training there next Tuesday. Thun is a fifteen minute drive from Spiez, where the Dutch national team is staying. After each group duel, the team returns to this place.

“It is a training field with an athletics track around it and an old -fashioned grandstand. I think it is great to train. I have not been able to discover a record in it, so that is good,” Jonker jokes, who is little worries. “I am assured on all sides that this will come together.”

Oranje will play the first European Championship match against Wales next Saturday. Furthermore, the European Champion of 2017 will take on England (July 9) and France (July 13) in the group stage. This Thursday, the Dutch national team will play a goodbye to Finland in Leeuwarden.
