Presenter Jojanneke van den Berge is releasing her first novel this fall. UF will appear on October 14 at Uitgeverij Thomas RAP and tells the story of a student who becomes a member of the Utrecht Corps and is confronted with the downside of club life.
The book revolves around Eline, who after her hazing matches the UVSV female corps. She builds a new life on it, but comes into contact with a corps member with sexism, power structures and the hidden culture within the student world. The title UF refers to the nickname of members of UVSV.
Van den Berge, known for EenVandaag , among others, wrote on Instagram on Tuesday that she was a member of UVSV. “My years in Utrecht are among the most beautiful of my life. But the deep -rooted sexism that comes up again and again within the corps, the Bangalists, the misogyne speeches, it touches me deeply.”
The Utrechtsch Studenten Corps was discredited last year after members had distributed a list with names, photos and personal details of UVSV members, provided with sexist comments. The Public Prosecution Service decided last month to prosecute four students for their role in this list.
