Jim Bakkum is on vacation with his family and shares on Instagram how he is more consciously dealing with expectations. According to the singer, this leads to fewer frustrations and a more relaxed atmosphere.
“I am increasingly realizing that by letting everyone in the family do exactly what they feel like doing on vacation, the atmosphere becomes so much more relaxed,” he writes in a vacation video. “No frustrations, just spontaneous moments and ultimate enjoyment of everything that does happen.”
During previous vacations, Bakkum liked to go out to dinner with the whole family, but his children felt differently about that. “I could often get annoyed when someone didn’t feel like it again and we had to go somewhere as an ‘incomplete’ family.”
For the first time, he is letting go of those expectations. “Now that I’ve found that button, I think: you can really learn not to force things,” he writes. According to him, this creates fewer disappointments and more peace. “Is more relaxed for everyone.”
Bakkum is married to musical actress Bettina Holwerda. Together they have three children: son Lux and daughters Posy and Molly.
