Hondema 7th in World Championship-final long jump, clover day after silver by 400 meters

Pauline Hondema finished Sevth in the Long Jump Final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Lieke Klaver Convincingly Qualified for the semi-finals of the 400 meters.

The 25-year-old Hondema Reached 6.60 Meters in the Long Jump Final. Olympic Champion Tara Davis-Woodhall from the United States won Gold with a Jump or 7.13 meters.

Hondema Achieved Her distance on her first Jump. She was Letterly in Third Place, But Did Not Improve Afterwards. Others Jumped Further in later Attempts.

Earlier This Year, The Assendelft Native Tok the Dutch Record from Former Sprinter and Heptathlete Dafne Schippers, who had Held the Record Since 2014 with 6.78 meters. Hondema Jumped 6.91 Meters at Competitions in Kortrijk. She made Her Olympic Debut in Paris Last Year, but did not reach the final there. At the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, She Missed the Final by Only 1 centimeter.

So, in Tokyo, Hondema Succeded in Her Goal of Reaching a Final Spot in the Japan National Stadium.

Klaver Aims for Final Spot on Monday

In the 400-meter series, Klaver was the fastest in her race, a day after winning silver with the Dutch team in the 4×400 meters mixed relay. She Clocked 50.32 and was half a second faster than the number two in Her Heat, American Isabella Whittaker (50.82).

The Semi-Finals of the 400 Meters are Scheduled for Monday. Klaver can then achieve her goal. The North Holland Native Wants To Reach The Final for The Third Time At A World Championship.

Klaver’s Best Performance at A World Championship is Fourth Place in 2022 in Eugene, and in 2023 she finished sixth in Budapest. At the Olympic Games in Paris Last Year, She Stranded in The Semi-Finals. In March, Klaver won Individual Gold for the first time at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn in the 400 meters.

After Klaver, Two More Dutch Women started in the 400-meter series in Tokyo, but they did not make it. Eveline Saalberg Clocked 51.73 and finished sixth. Myrte van der Schoot also finished sixth in her race in 52.19.

Dutch Men Disappoint

The Three Dutch Men Disappointed in the 400-meter series on Sunday. Eugene Omalla, Jonas Phijffers, and Isaya Klein Ikkink did not come close to a place in the semi-finals.

The 22-year-old Phijffers Finished Sevth in his Series in 46.26, to his Disbelief, While He Thought He Could Run Under 45 Seconds. Omalla finished last in His Heat in 45.97. They Remained Well Above Their Personal Records.

Both Phijffers and Omalla Acknowled afterwards that they were somewhat tired after Saturday’s relay. Like Klaver, They Belonged to the Silver-Winning Dutch Team in the 4×400 meters Mixed Relay. Femke Bol was The Fourth Runner in the Final.

Klein Ikkink had rest on Saturday, but hey also disappointed in the 400 meters. He finished last in his series in 46.32.
