The Dutch women’s hockey team has won the Pro League again on Wednesday. Without taking action themselves, the team of national coach Raoul Ehren secured the final victory. The men are also still in contention for the title.
On paper, the Dutch women could still be overtaken by Belgium or Argentina until Wednesday, but those two countries surprisingly made a mistake. Belgium lost 0-1 to Spain and Argentina did not win against India within regular time (2-2).
Belgium and Argentina can still equal the Netherlands in points in the remaining matches, but then the number of matches won counts. In that, the reigning Olympic champion can no longer be equaled or improved.
The Netherlands won twelve of the fourteen Pro League matches this season. The team drew against India and lost to Argentina.
For the Netherlands, it is the third final victory in a row and the fifth in total. Only in 2022 did the title not go to Orange. Then Argentina crowned itself winner of the Pro League, the country tournament that has existed since 2019.
Men’s team also has a chance of final victory
The Dutch men also still have a chance of the Pro League title. The team of national coach Jeroen Delmee played the last match 1-1 against England on Wednesday, after which the Netherlands won the extra point by winning the shoot-outs.
The Netherlands thus strengthened its leading position and still has a chance of final victory. Australia and Belgium still have to play several matches and can still overtake the Netherlands.
The last Pro League matches will be played in June. Then the focus will be on the European Championship, which will take place in Mönchengladbach from August 8 to 17. The men and women will defend their title there.
