Hockey players book Pro League victory on China repeating the Olympic final

The Dutch hockey players once again achieved a victory in the Pro League against China on Saturday. Coach Raoul Ehren’s team was too strong in a repeat of last year’s Olympic final, winning 3-1.

Orange won in Paris only after shoot-outs against the Chinese women, after it had remained 1-1 in regular time. The Dutch were crowned Olympic champions for the fifth time.

In the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen, it went easier. Freeke Moes opened the scoring in her return to Orange – she was struggling with a concussion – in the second quarter by shooting with her backhand.

In the third quarter, Orange pulled away from China. Fay van der Elst slid in the 2-0, after which Yibbi Jansen put the 3-0 on the scoreboard shortly afterwards. She scored from a penalty corner, her specialty. Shortly before the end, China saved face via Jinzhuang Tan.

Thus, Ehren’s team once again achieved a victory. On Friday, Orange had already achieved its biggest victory ever against Spain (11-2). Orange has now won eleven of the thirteen Pro League matches and leads the ranking.

For the hockey players, the summer is dominated by the European Championship, which will be held in Mönchengladbach, Germany from August 9 to 17. Later in the day, the hockey players will also be in action. Bond coach Jeroen Delmee’s team will face Argentina.
