The Dutch female hockey players have once again won the Pro League on Wednesday. Without taking action themselves, coach Raoul Ehren’s team secured the final victory.
On paper, the Netherlands could still be overtaken by Belgium or Argentina until Wednesday, but those two countries surprisingly made a misstep. Belgium lost 0-1 to Spain, and Argentina did not win against India within regular playing time (2-2).
Belgium and Argentina can still equal the Netherlands in points in the remaining matches, but then the number of matches won counts. In that respect, the reigning Olympic champion can no longer be equaled or improved.
The Netherlands won twelve of the fourteen Pro League matches this season. Only against India was there a draw, and they lost once to Argentina.
For the Netherlands, it is the third consecutive final victory and the fifth in total. Only in 2022 did the title not go to the Netherlands. Then Argentina was crowned winner of the Pro League, the international tournament that has existed since 2019.
The Netherlands will conclude the Pro League at the end of this month with two matches against Belgium. These matches are mainly focused on preparing for the European Championship, which will take place in Mönchengladbach from August 8 to 17.
