Heerenveen let Nicolaescu go, Mühren with Volendam into the Eredivisie

Sc Heerenveen has said goodbye to Ion Nicolaescu on Wednesday. The striker is leaving the Eredivisie club for Maccabi Tel Aviv, the reigning champion of Israel. Robert Mühren has extended his contract with FC Volendam and will enter the Eredivisie with the club.

The 26-year-old Nicolaescu had a contract for one year in Friesland and therefore Heerenveen will receive a transfer fee for the Moldavian. The club does not make any statements about the amount of the sum.

Nicolaescu has been playing for Heerenveen since the summer of 2023, which acquired him at the time for around 1.3 million euros from Beitar Jerusalem. The striker is now returning to Israel.

In total, Nicolaescu played 49 matches for Heerenveen. In those matches, he scored seventeen times and gave one assist. Heerenveen had already responded to his departure by bringing in Dylan Vente, who came over from Hibernian FC.

Last season, Vente played on loan for PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie. He then scored thirteen goals. That was five more than Nicolaescu.

Mühren stays with FC Volendam

There was more news from the Eredivisie on Wednesday: Mühren will also play for FC Volendam next season. The 36-year-old striker has extended his expiring contract by one year.

With eighteen goals, Mühren had a large share in Volendam’s title in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Teammate Henk Veerman scored even more often: 26 times.

Mühren made his debut in 2011 with FC Volendam in professional football. After that he played for AZ, Zulte-Waregem, Sparta Rotterdam, NAC Breda and SC Cambuur. In 2021, Mühren returned to Volendam.
